Hazel is the inspriation for Hazel House. We rescued her from a shelter in 2004 with the intention of placing her up for adoption. The shelter thought that her age was around 8 to 10 years. Sadly, our veterinarian's exam revealed a grade 4 heart murmur and early signs of congestive heart failure as well as luxating patellas, and a chest deformity. Our vet was a little more generous and guessed her age to be around 7 years.
The veterinarian wasn't sure how long she might live, but felt that she quite possibly only had months. She was such a sweet, happy little dog that we decided that for whatever time she had left she deserved to be loved and cared for.
Hazel's "can-do" attitude and zest for life was contagious. People never knew that she had any kind of medical condition until they were told about it. She never acted "sick" and always greeted everyone with a wagging tail. She loved to eat (which was apparent since she was quite overweight when she first came to us.)
She also loved to boss around the other dogs. She was usually too busy to sit on a lap, she prefered to be carried around like a little queen surveying her kingdom. She had a big big personality in a teeny little body.
