Little Bowwow Rescue

The Little Bow Wow Rescue was founded by Vicki Stone in May of 2002. We are a 501(c)(3) non- profit organization, passionately dedicated to rescuing small dogs of all types and breeds. We rescue dogs from shelters, and take in other dogs in need. Some are strays whose owners cannot be located, some are abandoned, and some are turned over to us by their owners.

When Vicki started this rescue, she envisioned a high quality rescue, with a personal touch and an emphasis first and foremost on the welfare of the dogs. She wanted these dogs to receive the best possible care and be provided with what ever was necessary to make them healthy and happy again, or in some cases, healthy and happy for the first time in their lives.

Little Bow Wow's dogs are fostered in our homes and provided with a safe, clean environment, beds and blankets, brand name dog foods, top notch veterinary care, friends to play with, toys, treats and of most of all, plenty of TLC. We are considered a "small" rescue because we only take in as many dogs as we feel we can provide with individual attention, on a daily basis. We feel that it is important to know the personalities, and habits of our foster dogs, so that we can find them the best possible homes.
Our adoption process begins with a phone interview and possibly, a home check. If we feel that there is a potential match, an appointment is scheduled to meet the dog.

Our adoption fees range from $200 to $400 depending on the individual dog. Once a dog is adopted, the new owners have a 2 week trial period to determine if the dog is indeed a match for their family. If it is decided that the dog is not a match, the dog must be returned to us and we retain $50 of the adoption fee. The remainder of the fee is reimbursed. We have written, legally binding contracts with anyone who adopts a dog from us.

Prior to adoption, all of our Little Bow Wow dogs are spayed or neutered, updated on vaccinations, micro-chipped, de-wormed, groomed, and treated for fleas and ticks. All dogs go home with a collar with a Little Bow Wow ID tag on it and also with a leash.

Our adoption restrictions are guidelines and our adoption committee may consider an applicant who does not typically fall within the guidelines. Their decision will take into consideration the individual dog in question as well as the applicant.

Our adoption restrictions are as follows:
We do not typically adopt dogs to individuals under 25 yrs of age, or to families with children under 12 yrs of age (this includes young couples or single people who plan to have children during the lifetime of the dog.)

We do not typically place dogs with anyone who is renting their residence.

Our adoption restrictions have evolved over time, and are a result of many years of working with rescue dogs, and in the case of our age restriction involving children, we also researched the national dog bite statistics involving children and dogs. We simply do not know the history of most of our dogs, and we feel that it is irresponsible to put our rescue dogs and young children at risk of becoming the victims of an unfortunate incident.

Individuals under the age of 25 are often not able to provide a stable home for a rescue dog considering all of the life changes that they will typically experience such as - repeated change of residence,  career changes, and relationships, all of which are situations where a pet can easily become an issue.

We receive calls weekly from people who desperately want to surrender their dogs to us because they rent and are moving and cannot take their dog with them to their new residence, or from people in relationships where the dog has become an issue, or from people who have a dog that is not getting along with their new baby. Literally thousands of dogs are euthanized in California shelters monthly due to circumstances related to these situations. Most of our rescue dogs have been through so much already, and our goal is to find them permanent homes where they can live out the rest of their lives being spoiled and loved. We will be happy to answer any questions regarding our adoption policies.

~~HOW YOU CAN HELP~~

Little Bow Wow Rescue is a 501(c) (3), non-profit organization. We   depend solely on our adoption fees and  your donations to cover the costs of caring for our rescued animals until we are able to  place them in  permanent homes.  Unfortunately, many of our animals are coming from pretty bad circumstances, where they have been abused, neglected or completely abandoned. Often, there are significant medical costs  incurred in order to get these animals  healthy. We appreciate any and all donations  we receive. These donations literally help to save lives. If you would like to help by making a financial donation, you can either click on the paypal button on our home page to make a credit card donation, or you can send a check made payable to  Little Bow Wow Rescue to...
